Welcome to the Western Wisconsin Rural Family Medicine Residency. This 1-2 rural training track provides a unique rural practice environment.

The first year will be spent at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, MN, where they have provided training in Family Medicine since 1972. Time at Methodist Hospital will provide high volume in-patient care, critical care for all ages, and obstetrics. The supportive learning environment and excellent faculty will prepare you for the rural medicine experience in western Wisconsin. The second and third year will be spent at Amery Hospital & Clinic and Westfields Hospital & Clinic where medical staff and faculty provide continuity care in rural western Wisconsin.

Through your training you will develop the competencies to provide family medicine in a rural setting and experience its unique challenges and rewards. Opportunities vary from a federally qualified health center to a visiting specialty provider clinic in addition to unexpected services such as inpatient geriatric psychiatry and a wound care center.

Our communities are very supportive of this program and look forward to welcoming new residents. Building on the long history at Methodist Hospital of training family medicine residents, I look forward to working with you to build a great rural residency experience.

Sincerely,

David DeGear, MD
